⬖ Did you ever sacrifice your joy in order to feel safe?

According to my mother, the hospital was trying something new. They dimmed the lights and the nurses began humming. She said I didn’t cry, just looked out with eyes wide open. I love life on this planet. I grew up close to nature, chose to study it in depth in grad school, and now live for exploring the wild places.

But after motherhood turned to single parentdom, I got scared. I thought the only way to be safe was to herd my love of the universe into the scientific paradigm. Then I could fit in. I would be “valuable” then. But not much blooms when you’re scared. In my heart, I had cut off all the other parts of me for a career. Fun time with family, nourishing time in the woods, scientific questions that thrilled me. At the lab, it didn’t feel safe to openly be a scientist and a mystic. I read tarot and astrology in secret. Life turned gray.

⬖ Then something magical happened — I got older.

I remembered I was going to die; we all are, *like, kinda soon*. I decided there was so much more to gain than to lose by crafting a life that included all of me. I picked up my cards and chose joy. And I can teach you how to choose it more often too.

tarot & astrology — mind marries matter

Mystics and scientists aren’t that far apart. Both share a deep drive to understand the nature of reality, using powerful tools that have been honed over generations. Traditionally scientists explore matter, while mystics explore consciousness. But there are scientists now who hypothesize that mind and matter are two irreducible sides of the same coin. Some say the consciousness we experience inside is a quantum state in itself. And I don’t say that in a pop culture kind of way. Quantum consciousness is up for debate in scientific arenas. In which case, in theory, our consciousness might glimpse many more universal possibilities than we appreciate.
